The game it all clicked - Best team performance of the season.

Seaside Youth 2 - 5 Ystradgynlais Youth

Scorers : Jordan Maynard x 2, Scott Scouse , Lewis Smith

In a tough away draw at seaside following a 5-4 loss down there a few weeks ago after being 4-1 up, the young blues had revenge on their minds.
Over the past few weeks in training we have concentrated on defending. And the art of pressure and recovery. After 20 minutes today and us doing, whats becoming mandatory at the club going down 1-0 it all clicked!!
Maynard scored from a long range free kick and Scott scored at the back post. Making the score 2-1 at half time.
We didnt want a repeat of the last game so the message was to sit tight and counter attack. Back four staggered their line, midfield 4 held their shape and didn't get pulled apart. Finally the boys played as a unit. Still some improvement needed, but some fine organisation. Seaside were mainly left shooting from outside the box. With Mr safe hands Rhys Miller collecting everything.
Kingpin CDM Jamie Thyer was man of the match. Cleaning up everything. Winning 2nd balls, winning headers, frustrating the opposition. Lewis Jones tucked in alongside him putting in some good challenges and spreading the ball wide for Scott and Cam to attack. Scouse was his usual self, making unbelievable turns and getting hacked by every player on the park trying to figure out how to get the ball from him. The breaks the attackers were making were pleasing on the eye and got their due rewards with another tap in by Jordan Maynard making it 3-1. Seaside had a lot of possession but posed no threat, until a penalty decision went against us to make it 3-2. This went against the run of play. But the boys didnt panic. They kept their shape and with 16 minutes to go Scouse popped up with another one to make it 4-2. During this period Lewis Vale came on for Cam and Lewis Smith came on for Scott. The joys of having a strong bench give us that little bit more energy in defence and attack and Lewis Smith got him self a goal, with 5 minutes left. By this time it was all over.
Special mention to the back 4 today with Ben and Conor running the channels so well when breaking. And centre halfs Maynard and Davies were exceptional. I dont think their striker had a clear chance on goal. And although debut captain Kyle Phillips didnt get on the score sheet, he held the line well and put in a good shift.
Game over we are on to the semi final. But a tasty one against Clydach on their patch next week will challenge the boys to improve on this performance and do what ive said they can do from the start. Next week will be like a cup final. Its a must win game if we want to get in to that top 2 this season.
