Match Report : Ynysygerwn FC v Ystradgynlais FC

By Gary Thomas

October 7th : Ynysygerwn FC 3 Ystradgynlais FC 7

The young blues played away at Ynysygerwn today in the first round of the S&R trophy.
We started off slow. Our 4-3-3 formation didnt work and found ourselves 3-0 down within the first 25 minutes!!! Midfield couldnt keep any shape and we were atracking in literally 1s and 2s.
A few key changes, particularly Kai Williams coming in to the centre of midfield and Joe Defritas coming on as centre half for Lewi Bradford. With midfield general Lewis Jones coming on for Harrison Darshan and the formation changing to 4-4-2 with Cam Phillips going up front got us a result straight away. Firstly Kai won us a penalty, neatly scuffed in by Lewis Jones. Next a corner from the left headed home by Jordan Maynard and then good link up play between Kai, Scouse and scorer Alfie got us the 3rd. 3-3 at half time. With 2 subs used.
In the half time team talk keeper Rhys Miller complained about a leg injury so up stepped Mike "the late shift" Murphy who had literally just turned up to come on for the 2nd half.
We went in to the 2nd half brimming with confidence. Ynys looked shell shocked and couldnt deal with our attacking threat. Connor Ennis made it 4-3 coming through from left back and Kai made it 5-3. Another penalty from a corner was awarded to us and Antony "Scouse" Clarke put it away for 6-3. At this point in time the blues were coasting. Pulling of some party trick skills and aggravating the Ynys team, who when 3-0 up earlier in the game, had mocked the blues. About 10 minutes left and another cross came over from the left by Alfie and an ynys central defender put it in his own net for 7-3. Cam Phillips was unlucky not to get on the score sheet today and Lewis Vale and Ben put a good shift in down the right hand side.
Our first win of the season and we now find ourselves unbeaten in 2 games. Plough away next week. Win that and we are back in the mixer. Well done to the boys for keeping their heads up and turning the game around. Confidence is back in the youth team. Looking forward to next week.
