Merlins Bridge Win The Plate Final

By Gary Thomas

It took a penalty shootout to separate the teams at Richmond Park

Merlins Bridge won the West Wales Youth Plate after a penalty shoot out against Rhos FC

Rhos FC had the better of the game in fairness and, backed by their very vocal supporters, took the lead in the 62nd minute through Jacob Humphreys.

Merlins Bridge equalised just over 10 minutes later through an own goal by Rhos FC's Cole Shingler

After the teams couldn't be separated on full time, and after extra time, we were down to the dreaded penalty shootout. Both sides scored their allotted 5 penalties with ease but Merlins Bridge's sixth was well saved by Rhos's goalkeeper Cellan Eustace only for Niall Griffiths to save Rhos's 6th penalty.

Merlins Bridge then scored their 7th penalty and Griffiths then pulled off an excellent save to win the game, and the plate trophy, for Merlins Bridge
