Message from League Secretary - Neil Jacobi
"I know that no one truly knows when amateur football will once again start but it is hoped that the West Wales Youth League will be able to commence in September. Certainly, the FAW are looking to allow registrations from the end of June!
Now, we are all going to have to use the COMET system for registration - that is for registration of your clubs, your players and to join the WW Youth League. Payment will have to be made through the COMET system as well. I appreciate that our League Rules do not reflect what has to now be done, but that is an unfortunate side effect of not knowing what was being implemented by the FAW for the 2020/21 season by the time we had to deal with our rules revisions. It can't be helped and everyone knows how we all enjoy using the COMET system!
Anyway, if your club is looking to enter a team for the WW Youth League then as well as going via the COMET system to enter, please let me know so that I can keep a separate record as well.
The League is intended to be a bridge between junior football and senior football for players that are over 16, but under 18 as at 31st August 2020 - essentially it's the 2 years they're in college or 6th form with anyone turning 16 during the season also able to play from that time. Furthermore, given that our league matches usually take place on a Sunday afternoon it will not affect any players that want to still play junior football or play senior football on the Saturday.
The West Wales Youth League takes applications for teams from Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire, Swansea or the West Glamorgan/Neath league areas - essentially any team within the WWFA area. We can accept clubs from outside the WWFA area, but only by special permission from that club's home association and the WWFA.
In all, it is a good opportunity for clubs to play a wider range of clubs, and is a great transition to Senior football.
According to the Rules of the League, if you wish to enter, you will need to enter (now by the COMET system) by no later than 11th July 2019. However, given that we are all having to find out about how the Comet Registration system works and the current real world problems we're experiencing, we will be accepting applications right up until 14th August 2019. The implementation of COMET for league registration is likely to have some teething problems hence why we are affording additional time as we appreciate team entry is entirely dependent on the numbers of players registered - it is also why as well as entering via the COMET system that you keep in contact with me so as to ensure that we don't accidentally miss a club out of the League.
We will then hold a meeting at which all clubs entering the league are required to attend. Provisionally, This will be on Monday 17th August 2019. The meeting will be held at the Globe in Loughor with the meeting starting at 7 pm. This will be an opportunity to explain how the league structure will work and (dependent upon numbers) the play offs will work.
I will email separately about the AGM (which usually takes place in early July) because it is likely that it will have to be delayed for the time being.
Finally, if you know of any other clubs that would like to enter the league, please pass on this information"
